Basic skills class
We offer a 9-week program including an orientation the first week without dogs, 7 weeks of class work and a graduation ceremony all for a $105. This fee includes a membership to the club for one person for the remainder of the calendar year or the following calendar year if you take the September class, so you can continue to train after you and your dog "graduate." Any additional family members wishing to train must complete a registration form and pay the $105 fee to become a member.
All dogs must be at least 6 months old to attend our class. (Puppy classes also are offered.)
All of our instructors are well qualified having earned AKC obedience titles on their own dogs or have apprenticed under instructors who have titles for at least two years..
Our classes teach basic obedience commands like sit, down, come, stay and heel using positive reinforcement, primarily food. These classes are designed to help you and your dog develop a strong relationship. All pure and mixed breed dogs are welcome, but dogs must be at least six months of age.
Our spring and summer classes are taught outdoors at the Liberty Fire Company grounds in Sinking Spring. Fall and winter classes are held indoors at the 4H Community Center in Bern Township.
The first session is WITHOUT dogs. To register, go to the "Forms" tab above and select the form for the class you would like to attend or call 610-670-7009 and leave a message on our voice mail. An information sheet and registration form will be mailed to you.

(The online forms are in PDF format, if you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, click here to download the free software that will allow you to see the file and print the form).
Classes are held Tuesday evenings during the fall and winter and in the spring and summer outdoor sessions, Monday evenings are offered as well. In the summer, a Saturday morning class also is available.
Deadline to register for classes is two weeks BEFORE orientation. This means your check and registration form must be RECEIVED by then. Thanks.

Why should I continue training after my class ends?

2017 Basic Skills Classes

Orientation for our classes are held WITHOUT dogs and are scheduled for the following dates in 2017:  Jan. 17, April 18, July 11 and Sept. 19.

The January and September classes are held indoors at the Berks County 4-H Community Center in Bern Township at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. Your application and check are due one week before orientation.  Read to the left for more details or click on the "Forms" tab under the banner above and select "Basic Skills Registration."

The April and July classes are held outdoors at the Liberty Fire Company in Sinking Spring. You may choose Mondays or Tuesdays at 7 p.m. or Saturdays at 10 a.m. (July only). Orientation for all of these classes is held on a Tuesday at 7 p.m. Your class then will begin at it's regularly scheduled day and time following orientation.

If you  already have completed some obedience training and would like to just join the club, click here for a membership application and you can be evaluated.

If you are in an April or July class and you cannot make your normally scheduled time, you may attend another class.

The Berks County Dog Training Club was founded in 1946 as a not-for-profit organization with the purpose of training you to train your dog. To this day we continue with that same purpose. Through the years we have grown to a membership of several hundred people. We are a very active group with many dedicated volunteers who would welcome the opportunity to "train you to train your dog."
